New Malawi coach Ronny van Geneugden has big decisions to appoint a new captain after he dropped skipper Davie Banda from his squad preparing for a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Comoros on 10 June.
Van Geneugden, who was appointed in April, says he is looking to pick a a “natural leader” as the new captain.
The Belgian tactician said to be captain of the nationa team is “very important.”
Gabadinho Mhango , the Malawian in form striker at Bidvest Wits in South Africa is tipped to be considered as the new skipper.
“ He is a good player first of all,” RVG admitted.
But he kept his choice close to the chest.
Other possible choices would be Robert Ng’ambi, Limbikani Mzava , Francis Mlimbika, Pilirani Zonda and Yamikani Fodya.
RVG dropped captain Banda, who plays for Malawi champions Kamuzu Barracks, saying his form has “dropped.”
Banda has captained the Flames for their last three matches.
The Malawi coach also said champions Kamuzu Barracks are not playing the style of football he is looking for.
“I think it will be a strong group that is ready to play the passing game and stick to the game plan.
“We have a strong squad, we selected the players because we think they have the technical skills to give quality to the group.”
Striker Chiukepo Msowoya is another notable omission from the 27-man squad, he has failed to score in six months for his South African club Golden Arrows.
Goalkeeper Owen Chaima who plays for Mbeya United in Tanzania, makes a return to the Flames after over a year on the sidelines.
