Malawi Police arrest murder suspect in Mzimba
Police in the northern region district of Mzimba have arrested a 30 year old man suspected of murder.
Mzimba police station spokesperson Sargent Gift Nyirongo confirmed the arrest of Godwin Nyirongo of Kapaika village, T/A Khosolo in the district.
Nyirongo said the man is suspected of murdering Nephan Nyirenda of Maluza village, T/A Mabulabo on May 1 this year.
According to the police spokesperson, the deceased met his fate when riding on a bicycle from Katete Mission hospital to his home.
Nyirongo said upon arrival at Chamaji trading center he met the suspect in accompany of two other friends who stopped him for not ringing the bell to them.
As a way of punishing the deceased, the three ordered him not to ride the bicycle and instead walk with them to which the deceased obliged.
”But when they reached Chamaji bridge, the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the deceased in the stomach. He was left there for the dead,” said Nyirongo.
The police spokesperson said the deceased was taken to Katete mission hospital by passersby and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Postmortem conducted at the same hospital revealed that the Nyirenda died due to hemorrhage (severe loss of blood).
This is the 9th murder case to be recorded this year according to statistics obtained at the police station.
