Malawi police arrest Nsanje businessman in connection to murder

Malawi Police have arrested a Nsanje businessman, Isaac Majiga 36, in connection to the murder of a suspected criminal, Ruo Dayo 22.

Nsanje police Criminal Investigations Officer Assistant Superintendent (SCIO) John Timbena said the suspected criminal was assaulted to death on the night of September 12, 2016 at Phokera Trading Centre on allegations that he stole cash amounting to K400,000 from the house of the suspect.

Contrary to what other police officials said earlier that Dayo was killed by an angry mob, Assistant Superintendent Timbenao said their investigations have revealed that some few individuals including Majiga were behind the murder hence the arrest.

He has since warned of more of such arrests as he bemoaned the conduct of taking law into one’s own hands.

“As police, we will not entertain any one taking the laws in their hands. When there are issues, people should inform us so that we can make follow up and arrest the culprits,” he advised.

The Nsanje police SCIO said the businessman will be charged with murder and will appear in court soon.

He hails from Chinsomba village in the area of Chief Mbenje in Nsanje district where as the victim was a resident of Zuze village in the same area.
