Malawi Police nab Prophet Isaiah for fraud

Prophet Isaiah Mkandawire of Rhema Ministries – which operates at northern region district if Rumphi and surrounding areas – has been arrested for allegedly obtaining money by false pretences, Malawi police have confirmed.

Rumphi First Grade Magistrate Court heard that in October last year, Mkandawire approached one of his faithful Harry Chunda – who belongs to Kasenga out-church in Mphompha in the district –  and asked for K193 000 to repair his “vehicle for easy mobility during evangelism and visiting the faithful.

“Chunda reported the matter here and we immediately instituted a hunt for him only to catch him last week,” said Inspector Moyo, head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Police investigations indicate that Mkandawire doesn’t even own a car he was claiming to take for repairs.

He has since been charged with the offence of obtaining by false pretenses which is contrary to section 319 of the penal code and attracts a maximum sentence of 5 years if found guilty.

Mkandawire hails from Kaseka village, T.A. Jalavikuba in Mzimba district.
