Malawi Police net killers of Indebank boss, exhumes body: Exclusive!

In an effort to wipe off crime, Malawi Police have arrested two men suspected to have murdered a 51-year- old Blantyre based banker whose body has been exhumed  in waist-deep pit  behind his house in Malawi’s commercial city, Blantyre.

The suspects, Timothy Sinalo and Kenneth Chimwanga are believed to have murdered 51-year-old Richard Nsamala  earlier this week at his home and buried him behind his Soche East house. They also stole his car among other items.

According to Head of Criminal Investigations Department in Malawi Police Service (MPS) Bob Mtekama, the suspects were caught in Thyolo on Tuesday after a tip from villagers who got suspicious with the stolen Toyota Marino, registration number KA 2851 parked in Kadzuwa Village, Traditional Authority Bvumbwe.

Mtekama said, the suspecting villagers alerted Bvumbwe Police and the two were apprehended.

“When our colleagues at Bvumbwe Police got the tip, they followed to where the car was and arrested the two and after tracking documents that were found in the car, it appeared none of the two owned the car,” Mtekama told Nyasa Times.

The CID head told Nyasa Times that the police tried to call a mobile number that was registered on the ownership disk of the car but the phone happened to be with one of the suspects at that time.

When quizzed further on where they got the car from, the suspects revealed that they killed the owner and run away with the vehicle.

When Nyasa Times spoke to the two suspects, they confirmed of murdering the victim, saying they thought that would be their easier way to success.

Tinagwirizana kuti timuphe nde tilemera, tikhala ndigalimoto komanso timanga nyumba” said one of the suspects, meaning “We agreed to kill him so that we can get rich, own the car and at least build a house”

One of the suspects, 26-year-old Sinalo who used to work for the deceased as a house helper told Nyasa Times reporter that they killed the victim in the night of Sunday the 19th August  as they strangulated him and buried him behind his house on the following Monday morning.

Sinalo and Chimwanga then left with the car to Thyolo and hid it at the latter’s mother in-law.

According to Sinalo, he had worked at the deceased’s house for not more than two months before the incident.

The deceased was an employee of Indebank who was single. He  hailed from Chimtedza Village, T/A Mlora Nsanje.

Police will hand over the body to the bereaved family after conducting a poster mortem and a homicide case will be filed for the two criminals.

Sinalo 26, hails from Maele Village, T/A Mbenje while his colleague Chimwanga 33, hails from Kantimbanya Village, T/A Somba in Blantyre.
