Malawi Police says man arrested for soliciting sexual services pretending to be woman
Malawi Police on Monday arrested 19-year-old Van Gomani for pretending to be a woman and solicit sexual services along Kaunda Road in Lilongwe.
Kanengo Police Station Public Relations Officer Salome Zgambo Chibwana said the young man was dressed woman cloths and had a weave and looked like a female commercial sex worker.
“It was during the night when Gomani met a man at Kaunda Road who asked him to have sex at the nearby rest house. When they went to the rest house, the other man noticed that the suspect has features of a man,” Chibwana said.
She added that the man went to Kanengo police station with the ‘lady’ where he reported the incident after being frightened.
“The man felt deceived and suspicious that Gomani wanted to steal from him through his fake female looks” Chibwana said.
The case was taken to Lilongwe Magistrates Court but it could not be because no magistrate was available to handle the case and were told to come again on July 19, 2017, according to Chibwana.
She said the suspect will answer charges of soliciting immoral purpose, which is contrary to Section 180, sub section (e) of the Penal Code.
Gomani hails from Kapetera Village, Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre.
