Blantyre Zero crowned champs of Pres’ Cup  south women football

Blantyre Zero was crowned Southern Region Women Football Presidential Cup Champions after crushing Ntopwa United 3-2 in a fierce battle on Sunday at the MDC Stadium in Blantyre.

The defending Champions, Blantyre Zero, displayed classic football in the first half through their strikers Temwa Chawinga and Ruth Tambala who kept on terrorizing Ntopwa territory.

In the 5th Minute of the first half, weapon of mass destruction, Temwa Chawinga scored the first goal for the Blantyre Zero after Ntopwa defence in the name of Yhvone Maganga, Zion Duda and Funny Magombo failed to clear the ball.

During the second half, Southern Region Women Football Presidential Cup Top Goal Scorer, Chawinga sent Blantyre Zero supporters to honey moon after scoring two consecutive goals in 5th and 28th minutes respectively.

In the 40th and 41st Minutes of the second half, Ntopwa United super substitute, Beatrice Ntaja scored two consecutive goals to make it 3-2 in favor of Blantyre Zero.

In a post match interview Ntopwa United Head Coach, James Sangala conceded defeat but was quick to salute his players for displaying classic football.

“l must congratulate the girls, l am really happy for them.  Although we have lost, my girls played professional football mainly in the last ten minutes of the game. Classic skill is what we need in the game of football,” said Sangala.

In her remarks, Blantyre Zero Striker and top goal scorer, Temwa Chawinga said, “We played well and l thank God that we managed to beat Ntopwa United.”

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Technical Director, John Kaputa saluted Blantyre Zero for defending the Cup. He also commended Southern Region Women Football committee for organizing a successful 2017 Southern Region Women Football Presidential Cup finals.

Top Goal Scorer, Temwa Chawinga went home with MK20, 000 while her team Blantyre Zero got MK500, 000 for emerging the champions.

Ntopwa United received MK250, 000 for scooping second slot.
