Malawi Police shoot dead suspected robber in Limbe

In a rare swift move, Malawi Police have on Thursday morning in the Central Business District (CDB)  of Limbe struck a quick one on suspected robber Amos Nahuwa, aged 38.

Limbe police Public Relations Officer Chifundo Kasunje confirmed of the shooting, saying the suspect wanted to rob a 30-year old Chinese national, Linyinma, who was about to go for banking of un disclosed sums from the sales of the previous day in their Yihua Investments.

Although the Police publicist did not confirm that the suspect was shot dead, a source at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital said the suspect’s body is at the mortuary.

An eye witnesses near Kapenga bus terminal in Limbe, who praised the police for their quick action, disclosed that the robber was shot on both legs and lost a lot of blood, before being picked by the law enforcers to hospital while un conscious.

He was not surprised to hear that the robber could be dead as “he was really shot”.

Kapenga bus terminal is one of the dangerous places in Limbe where robbery and assault cases happen during day light as if it is nobody’s business, which some attribute to the congestion made by vendors and mini bus touts.

Crime rate in Malawi has for the past six months been high a development that has earned the police service bad names with many concerned citizens calling for the revamp of the service and its leadership.

Let the police extend the shootings to all thieves. Some of these still with their pens and papers. Its sad to note emphasis been put on cashgate issues at the capital hill when the most devastating cashgate makes progress in various Government institutions. This of the hospitals, etc…kodi inu a boma zoona maso ano sakuona? poor Malawi. Cry my beloved country.

It was plausible for the police to shoot a robber who was aiming to steal from a Chinese man. But would the police have done the same if a Malawian was being robbed? Police please protect everyone, thieves are terrorising us; shoot all these thugs
