Police in Lilongwe during the night of December 9 shot dead one person and arrested two of the deceased’s accomplices charged with robbery with violence.

The incident happened within Area 49 in the city, according to Kanengo Police Relations Officer,  Salome Chibwana.

Chibwana , identified the deceased as Joseph Chiphwanya Njoka (age and district of origin not known) and the others as George Soko, 33, from Lumbadzi, Traditional Authority (T/A) Nkukula in Dowa and Henry Mlewa, 27, from the same area.

She alleged that the deceased and two suspects who were currently in custody were some of the people who were operating in groups breaking into houses at night.

“On the said date, they broke into a woman’s house in Area 49,” Chibwana said, adding that the suspects ran away after stealing goods worth an undisclosed sum of money.

She said police confronted the three after well-wishers tipped them about the place where the suspects were residing.

“Police together with the Criminal Investigation Department and people in the community went to their home where they found them and in the process, the suspects started running away.

“This forced the police to shoot in the air to scare them. A stray bullet hit the deceased on his leg,” said Chibwana.

She said a postmortem conducted at Area 25 clinic revealed that the deceased died due to loss of blood.

According to Chibwana, police recovered goods such as decoders, DVD players and TV screens, among others, from the suspects’ home.

She said the two suspects would appear before court soon to answer charges of robbery with violence.-Mana

  1. Kill all of them, wherever your keeping them. This is only way to scare other thugs, who plan to rob people in their homes an businesses hence reducing congetion in prisons.

  2. The police must have been extremely lucky to catch them. At a function on Saturday afternoon where we paid for six officers to patrol for security, at least 2 cars were broken into while the officers just sat under a a tree chatting and drinking lots of fanta.

  3. Just pump some lead metals into these scums low lifes. They r a menace to our lives in the city.Wipe them all.Fed up with these thieves.

  4. I like stray bullets. You should have fired 3 times so that we have 3 stray bullets. Never too late, you can still fire two more stray bullets and am sure on their way down they will find the other two thieves wherever they are. Bravo stray bullet! Bravo Malawi police! Bravo Kanyani or Chinyani or Kanyama whatever you are!

  9. Thank you Kanyama and your men and women in uniform. Pitty the stray bullets did not hit the other two as well. Let an accident happen to them while in prison. Agalu amenewa awonjeza, afe ndithu.

  10. I dont want to call this ‘a shoot to kill’ incident where we are told the victim was caught by a stray bullet which hit him on the leg. He died from excessive loss of blood, a position I believe would have been prevented if there was the will to rush the victim to hospital

  11. bravo police reform hope you will deal with them accordingly akangotuluka tiwawotcha, no option.

  12. Congrants should also go to the Chirimba family that fought to safeguard their property and killed one thief. Though the Chirimba pple are savages they ended up attacking the good people in the afternoon instead of thanking them. The afternoon attack made the youthful family lose a fridge, a gym machine and assorted items which i hope the new IG will encourage his men to investigate and recover the items and bring the calprits to face the law. Keep it up Kanyama. Tisamve kuti PAC yakana the new IG. We shall much to parliament in protest. After all parliamentarians are common thieves. Look at their salary hikes and how they evade to pay back their loans.
