TNM supports debate on financial sector laws: Donates K1m to Malawi Law Society for symposium
Premier mobile phone company TNM has donated K1 million to Malawi Law Society (MLS) as contribution towards a symposium on Financial Sector Laws in Malawi underway Friday at the Great Hall of Chancellor College in Zomba.
MLS has organised the symposium to provide a platform for interrogating the significance, import and implications of unprecedented law reforms in the areas of commercial and financial laws since independence.
TNM Public Relations and Sponsorship Manager Limbani Nsapato said the symposium provides a platform for debate that highlights the importance of financial laws and how these affect Malawi’s economy.
Apart from being publicly listed and traded on the Malawi Stock Exchange, we also offer a mobile money transfer service, Mpamba. Our hope therefore is that discourse on financial sector laws should go beyond traditional financial matters. TNM is keen to promote debate on non-traditional financial inclusion issues such as mobile money,”he said.
Receiving the donation MLS Honorary Treasurer John Suzi Banda hailed TNM for the contribution.
“On behalf of Malawi Law Society let me express my profound gratitude to TNM for this timely donation that will make possible for us to host this symposium,” said Banda.
Banda said the symposium will also tackle new financial services that have been introduced on the market. He cited mobile money as one of them.
The symposium will bring together academics, lawyers and other professionals.
