Malawi police shot dead K46.4m robbery suspect in Blantyre
Police in Malawi’s commercial capital Blantyre have shot dead a suspect believed to be part of the armed robbers that killed a police officer and robbed K46.4 million from Petroda in Lilongwe last week.

The suspect was shot dead at Kameza Roundabout Monday evening.
The law enforcers were on their way to Lilongwe with two of the suspects who have been caught in the commercial capital, according to National Police spokesperson Rhoda Manjolo.
“When they got at Kameza, the two suspects in the car showed the officers their friends who they claimed were part of the gang that killed a police officer and robbed Petroda.
“As the car stopped, the three suspects started to run away but police chased them and shot one of them. Two of the three are at large,” said Manjolo.
Inside sources also claimed that the suspects were found some property including vehicles believed to have been stolen elsewhere.
“It is believed that all the suspects just travelLed to Lilongwe to carry out their mission, otherwise they all based in Blantyre.
“We will not relent until we get hold of those at large. We will use any available means to trace there whereabouts and brought them to book,” one of the sources.
The criminals, among them ex-Malawi Police Officer, attacked a Petroda minibus and killed a police officer before hibernating with a whooping K46.4 million, sources said.
The criminals also snatched two rifles from the police officers.
However, one of the rifles, a K2C serial number K007376 and five rounds of official ammunitions were recovered.
No. A5517 Sgt. Anthony Mkokho was killed on the scene whereas his partner No. B3060 Constable James Clifford was shot in the head and is admitted to Kamuzu Central Hospital.
The criminals attacked the minibus near Kamuzu Central Hospital Roundabout in the administrative capital.
The armed thugs, using BS 6189 Nissan Tilda Soloon–stolen from Isaland Investment and real registration MJ 7494–unexpectedly blocked the minibus and shot at the security officers.

No. 81, you are very wrong. The Police were tipped by one of the employees at the Puma filling station in Kanengo about the impending robbery. He was apparently part of the plan but we don’t know what made him change his mind. He described the vehicle the thieves would come by, the time etc. The Police were waiting for them and when they came and all facts as tipped by the informant were exactly the same, they opened fire. What were the rifles doing in their car if they were innocent and just parked their car at the filling station?
Free advice to the Police: Don’t be a visible targets by wearing your uniforms when guarding premises like filling stations. The robbers will want to deal with you first. Be in civilian clothing and carry pistols as the women police officers in Kanengo were. Yes, the police who shot the bustards in Kanengo were women. Donate your old fashioned rifles to game rangers.
There is no way the 2 crimals in the police car could have spotted the other 3 men they claimed were their accomplices!! No way! What kind of co-incidence is that? I would unnderstand if only 1 was spotted, not 3. Penapake I am questioning the officers at the scene. How could they fail to catch even 1 man out of the 3 so that they could question him to verify the truth? What if they had shot an innocent person? Why does it always happen that whenever thieves have struck some place and policemen plus police guns are implicated, the perpetrators are either shot dead by our Malawi policemen or they are at large?? Something fishy here. Wake up malawians! !
My question is; were they handcafed or not & it shows that they were left alone?
These people are nothing but legal murderers. A bunch of blood thirsty wolves who need to be wipe out from the face of the earth.
ku shooter mpaka matako kutaya zimpwisi..koma apolice amenewa…wel done mps.

IWAS THERE AT KAMEZA…THESE THUGS WERE IN A CAR AND STOPED AT KAMEZA PETRODA SANA SHOP AND ONE CAME OUT OF THE CAR,INSTANTENOUSLY A POLICE VEHICLE APPEARED AND THE ROBERS DROVE OFF LEAVING THEIR COLLEAGUE WHO TRIED TO ESCAPE ON FOOT AND WAS SHOT,HE WAS ALIVE THE TIME HE WAS BEING TAKEN TO QECH….THATS WHAT WE SAW AND THATS HOW IT HAPPENED.WE DNT KNOW WHAT THESE GUYS WERE UP TO AND INDEED IF THE POLICE WERE ON THEIR WAY TO LILONGWE OR PTHE COPS WERE AGEN PLAYING THEIR HIDE AND SEEK GAME!
So if u r a luk alike with a wanted thug, u r most likely going to die in Malawi. If ur car runs out of fuel, ask someone else to buy it for u if u dont want to die- a few days ago, police killed people in a car in Lilongwe simply because they parked at the filling station longer than necessary. Dont jog next to a filling station bcoz u will be mistaken for a runaway thief. Just as i was scared living in Malawi4 yrs ago, i feel the same today. God help Malawi.
Please show the faces of the escapees on TV. This will yield the desired results.
The unproffesional police who can not shoot to catch but shoot to kill. Is it retariation or justice? What if those caught gangs just decided to implicate the other guys?
Kkkkkkkk aphedwe basiiiiii
Job well done

Malawi beware innocent souls would be lost. How can u shoot to kill an armed suspect. How did u plan ur ambush that out of 3 u didn’t even catch any. How did u apply ur tactics in approaching them and how were your target. How sure r u that indeed this man was in the gang of thugs. The fact that they were running away does not mean that they were connected to this issue. I understand when u shot an armed person but here now am scared. We r not the best judges. The hand clappers beware one day u ll be catch by an astray bullet kunena kwake nkomweku was one of the robbers.

Can someone tell me why the pictures of these thugs are not posted by the Police on TV / Newspapers / Social Networks as wanted people. Many countries do this we should emulate the same.
But why running away, guilty conscious.

Kill them
The `SUSPECTS’ walking together. What a coincidence! The dead don’t talk. Suppose our trigger happy goons point a gun at ‘innocent you’ and u decide to scram because knowing for sure they will shoot to kill. What happens. Dead as a Dodo.
Nice job guys
well done
Do not relent. Kudos to our men in uniform. Flush them out and sort them out. Akutisowetsa mtendere amenewa.
Lets be honest, the police didn’t have a wise plan to catch the three, i believe they woukd have done better…catching all of them
One key observation is that on every armed robbery there is either a police officer, ex-police officer or someone related to a police officer! The MPS need to relook at its recruitment process otherwise it will continue to be a training ground for criminals…..
Shoot to kill works!
Once gain, MPS, well done. This is intelligence and vigilance at its best. What did these think they were. This is a tiny country, where would they hide. LOOK FORWARD TO THE MPS CATCHING UP WITH THE TWO RUN AWAYS. CONGRTS.

Why shoot to kill seems to be the solution.
While some sectors will praise this shoot to kill system but my opinion says lets resort to a real system that will capture them including the masterminders and sentence them to life in prisonment.
In South Africa shoot to kill is also a must where necessary but we can’t say crime rate is zero, its still high.
Lets find a better solution before other innocent souls lost their life in a mistaken identity or stray bullet.
Dailysun.officers should be investigated. When transporting dangerous climinals they must be chained. Yes there is someone behind this, trueth will be revealed.mwataya mbava chifukwa choona suspect. Kkk
Captain ndi Gutepo osamawelenga mwa phuma, the
article says the two handcuffed suspect in the car showed the police their three friends at Kameza and police stopped the car and gave a chase the three one was shot and two disappeared in thin air not those two in the car.chizungu kikiki
HEEY U PEOPLE,PLEASE UNDERSTAND palibe wanena kuti the two suspects in the car have escaped.it was three suspects on the ground who were being chased and one was gunned down
Kumamva nkhani. Three of the suspects were walking at Kameza. One was shot, two escaped. Presumably the two in the car were still there.
Kungoti journalist mwina sanalembe bwino..
oyenda ndi lupanga.kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
So thugs were being transported without being handcuffed?. Impossible. The Police has to explain.
It shows u ppo don’t read the story with conscious otherwise its precisely presented. In other interpretation; it says, the Police were travelling from BT to LL with two handcuffed suspects in there vehicle. When they approached at Kameza another motor vehicle overtook and blocked the Police vehicle with the aim of ambushing them to rescue the suspects. Now the handcuffed suspects identified the vehicle (one overtaking) to be their friends who also took part in the Petroda saga. One of the handcuffed suspects told the Police that the ones in the vehicle( which was overtaking the Police vehicle) are also criminals, now they started shooting at the Police with the to rescue the handcuffed suspects. Now the Police started backfiring those suspects while the handcuffed one are still under there custody. The criminals as they accepted the defeat some of them came out from the vehicle and started running away in the process one of them was shot down. The causative is that, these criminals in the civilian vehicle wanted to attack the Police and rescue their friends who were under escort of Police from BT to LL. I think this is now clear.
I think here its a failure of the reporter to express the story well.He needs to express well, which group of the suspects started running away when the police car stopped? Is it that group that’s already with them (police) or the other that was indicated by the three in the car?
Kkkkkkk shoot to kill

Who is the father of their minister?
We need their names please and what type of funeral ceremony do these dead thugs are accorded with their families. If they buried by some people who claims their dead bodies, then they must be having families.Just interested to know the identities of these thugs and their history as they do in other countries. They dig so much about the history of such people and why they have been involved in such heinous crimes all along.what has been the driving factor.poverty or drugs?what is level of their education? Were they religious people or not?
Shame to our police officers.
Amalawi ophunzira free primary education wa ndinomvetsa chisoni. The story is very clear. Police were with two suspects who pointed at their friends and not friend. When the police car stopped the three friends at kameza round about started running away. One of these three was shot dead and two of the three who were at kameza successfully run away
why are you concluding that the two who were in the car escaped? They did not. The two who escaped eere the ones at Kameza
Kkkkk iwe Homeboy (number 32)werenganso nkhani or upeze munthu akumasulire nkhaniyi. Kkkkkkk

You want the public help u trace those that hav run away yet u conceal the identity of those u hv caught. Parade them on tv. Let them mention their names. This police, eeish!!
Hmmmm. I don’t understand this now. The police had 2 suspects who showed them one of their friends who was conveniently walking around at Kameza round about. In trying to catch that one, they have lost even the two they had.
This just does not make sense:
1) Obviously those in the car had no handcuffs on, for how could they run fast and disappear with handcuffs on.
2) What made the policy think this was not just a decoy – to make them stop, divert attention and run away.
3) If the other person shot dead was someone that was not in the car, its possible the police shot an innocent civilian – never mind that he started running away. People run away from the police all the time and especially from the trigger happy Malawi police.
This whole story just does not make sense. Only Malawians who can believe this rubbish!
Great job continue ife tikagwira tidziwotcha amalizike agalu amenewa .
