Malawi President Peter Mutharika was a centre of attraction when he kissed and gave romantic red roses to  First Lady Getrude Mutharika, president to First Lady a Valentine dinner and dance party in the capital Lilongwe on Saturday.

The President in a black Chinese suit and a red bow tie on white shirt kissed the First Lady who was in a red-hot dress as the patrons looked on.

Mutharika was conspicuously seen and pictured when he  put his arm around his wife and planted a big kiss on the First lady as the patrons roared.

The bouquet of roses had a valentine’s note:  “On this special day, I want to say thank you! Thank you for always being there for me through the frights and the cold nights. Here, I bring you roses to let you know how special you are. You’re an amazing wife and I love you dearly. Happy Valentine’s Day!”

  6. Mr president, you are a disgrace. You should have used the money you have wasted on this dinner to help the displaced multitude of people, the deceased families and the poor. What’s the point of begging from donors when you are celebrating in public. God forbid!

  7. Misplaced priorities . Only in corrupt and docile countries such a thing would take cetre stage. How insensitive is this president? How can he be seen celebrating eating while the masses are suffering? Its not to say he should be hungry as well but rather he should set a good example by not showing pompous functions. I guess Malawi is only poor for the masses not for the inept and arrogant elite!

  11. With the hamongous problems Malawi is going through viz a vis death of people due to floods and destruction of property, the President and his vice take another step in hosting more parties. Imagine after the earthquake in Haiti, the leadership hosting a party, it never happened but Malawi is a banana republic sure.

  25. For those who saw the “kitsi” on TV, it was a very primitive type of kiss . It was embarrassing to see Peter approaching Gertrude with his tongue already out between his lips . And any good reader of body language could tell that this particular “couple” does not usually kiss even in private .     If anything such people like bringing girl friends, street girls or secret lovers commonly referred to as MG2z!
