Malawi Queens off to Australia ‘ to make nation proud’

The Malawi national netball team—the Queens – has gone to Perth, Australia for the Four National Invitation tournament with a promise to make the nation proud of their performance.

“I am optimistic these young girls will do well and make Malawi proud,” Coach Edith Kaliati said.

Sixth-ranked Malawi Queens will face South Africa, ranked fifth in the world, for the once-off test as a curtain-raiser to the test between world champions Australia and world No 1 New Zealand.

Malawi was for some time South Africa’s nemesis, but the Proteas bounced back at the World Championships with a hard-fought 52-50 victory over their fellow Africans.

The Queens first game is on October 20 against New Zealand and their second assignment will be on 21 October against Australia Under-21.

The following is the travelling squad:

Mwayi Kumwenda, Sindi Simutowe, Grace Mwafulirwa, Caroline Ngwira, Towera Vinkhumbo, Bridget Kumwenda, Beatrice Kadango, Sylivia Mtetemela, Joana Kachilika, Takondwa Lwazi, Joyce Mvula and Jayne Chimaliro.
