Malawi records 26 new Covid-19 cases, number staggers to 481

Malawi on Thursday recorded 26 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the number of cases to 481 as people continue to disregard preventive measures set by government.

However, there have been 10 new recoveries.

According to ministry of Health information, of the new cases, nine were identified at Kamuzu international airport, saying the patients were coming from Kuwait.

The information says of the nine, six are residents of Lilongwe, two are from Blantyre and one is from Mzuzu.

Lilongwe, according to the ministry of Health, has recorded five more new cases, of which four are contacts of two different confirmed cases and one is still being investigated to establish the source of infection.

The ministry says Blantyre has registered five new cases too out of which two are health workers.

Salima has registered four new cases all associated with travel while Mzuzu, Thyolo and Zomba have registered a new case each.

Out of the 481 cases in the country, 382 are imported infections and 86 are locally transmitted while 13 are still under investigation.

Four people died of Covid-19 in the country.
