Programs manager at St. John of God Hospital Mwai Nkhoma said this is due to anxiety and stress which goes with covid-19.

“We are now recording high numbers of mental health problems in the country and these are effects of covid-19,” said Nkhoma.

Nkhoma said there was need for concerted effort to deal with this emerging challenge.

Nkhoma said this on Thursday during the launch of a health workers guide on mental health.

Ministry of Health official Michael Udedi said the government is now training frontline health workers on mental health to equip them with skills on how best to deal with the emerging challenge.

He concurred with Nkhoma that mental health cases are on the rise in the country due to covid-19.
