Malawi rising star Gerald Phiri Jnr attracts South African interest
Rising star for Malawi national team, midfielder Gerald Phiri Jnr, has attracted interest from South Africa’s Absa Africa’s Absa Premiership clubs following his performances in the COSAFA Cup, his first outing for the Flames.

According to South African media, Phiri who playsa for CAPS United in Zimbabwe, has apparently caught the eye of some of the South Africa’s flagship league scouts watching the tournament.
The 21-year-old is part of the Malawi side that beat Bafana Bafana on penalties in the plate semifinal Wednesday night,
“I’m not surprised that there’s interest from South Africa, he’s a really talented lad and has done well for Malawi in the COSAFA,” Soccer Laduma quoted Paul Mitchell, the managing director of Siyavuma Sports Group.
“He’s been playing well in Zimbabwe and I have no doubt that if he comes to South Africa then he will improve tenfold,” he added
Phiri, formerly of Mighty Wanderers and a son of football coach Gerald Phiri, is likely to feature in the COSAFA Plate final this week as the Flames look to get their hands on the trophy as they face Zambia.

Yah he is one of best players that Malawi will put there trust in them.
But be careful with the pressure of stardom. Gaba and Chiukepo failed the pressure.
All the best Gerard junior..l hpe you will make us proud
A Gelie mukumenya bwino not so bad
All the best papa…
I watched Gerald play. I said to myself wow! This young man has the ability to reach greatness. All he needs is good mentorship really.
Keep it up Gerald.
Oh God bless our Land of Malawi, Im very proud of you Gerald, grace of God is upon you. Continue to be a good player and God fearing person, everything in His name is possible. I give you my fraternal Love, proudly Malawian. I love all the people in the World, their exisitance shows how Powerful God is, keep it up 🙂
My advise is: don’t go for the big four even if the money is great – Sundowns, Pirates, Chiefs and Supersport. Go for Celtic coz Maduka is there to guide you. Go for Free State stars coz Kinnah is there to guide you.
Talk to Kamwendo, Mgangira and Chiukepo to hear the sad ends… Then talk to Gaba, Mzava, Kanyenda and Atusaye to know how its done
What a talent and a marvel this boy is.
Big up chikombole cha manoma
Black Market it is true that a Malawian player from South Africa is Columbia but his name is Sherif Mpeta not asheraf mpeta. Our next Esau Kanyenda, very very good player.
Ya he did well but I like also that one with big hairs please anyone tell me his name he plays left side plz
Congrats Gerald. My advice to Kinna, can u please follow up on a genius midfielder / striker under 20, who has been bought to play in Columbia from South Africa whose both parents are Malawians (Salima) living in South Africa, the player is Asheraf Mpeta. The player had some links with Man U but a columbian team came in faster. The guy can add a value to the Flames in the near future. Good luck Flames.
Ndine mbuli pankhani imeneyo!,No Idea!
Looks like coaches have spotted this boy late after some of us saw some potential in him and have for long been crying for his inclusion. To make him a complete player,Gerald needs to strengthen his upper body and arms plus leg biceps.Doing so will make him play for any top league in the world because already he possesses speed and passing accuracy.
What I have noticed in our coaches is their inability to refine players to make them complete and deliver to the fullest.Players like Sulumba,Gerald,Tigzowere,Fodya,Micium Mhone,John Banda or John Lanjesi lack polishing them to make them sharp and consistent. This is the reason a good and experienced tactician is required to guide the Flames. There are a lot of players with potential but lack proper guidance to refine them.
Yes he’s well talented big up papa
We lv u papa may de almighty God b remember u as he rembered hezekiah
Keep it up Gerald. Malawians are behind you boy. Once again am proud to be Malawian. Yesterday the Flames, our national football team beat South Africa Bafana Bafana. I congratulate our national team coach, Mr Young Chimodzi and his troops for job well done. Do the same when you meet Zambia. The nation wish you all the best.
