Health ministry spokesperson Adrian Chikumbe said people in lakeshore areas of Karonga, Nkhata Bay, Zomba, Mangochi, Salima among others will get the vaccination.

“In addition, we will continue with the civic education on good sanitation to improve their quality of life,” he said.

Last year cholera killed close to 200 people from Machinga, Zomba, Mzuzu and Nkhata Bay among other areas.

However no one died from Nsanje and Chikhwawa, areas most hit by the disease every year and ministry of Health officials attribute this to vaccination the Lower Shire people received.

Chikumbe could however not say how much the vaccination would cost but it will surely save a lot of lives.
