Sri Lankan cricket legend hails Standard Bank Malawi

Sri Lankan Cricket legend Romesh Kaluwitharana has hailed the involvement of StandardBank and other corporate in the game of cricket.

Speaking at the  during this year’s Annual Sri Lanka Cricket Fiesta where a Nine-a-Side tournament throws off at the Limbe Country club on SundayKaluwitharana said he was impressed with the support that local companies have rendered to the Sri Lankan cricket community.

StandardBank was a main sponsor of this year’sSri Lanka Cricket Fiesta and contributed K1.5 million towards the organisation of the event.

“I would like to express my gratitude to all companies more particular our main sponsor Standard Bank for making this event more colourful and success,” saidKaluwitharana

Niroshim Dias representing the Sri Lanka Cricket community said described this year’s event as successful and hoping to hold another Sri Lanka Cricket Fiesta next year.

On her part Head of Marketing& Communication Thoko Unyolosaid the bank was proud to be associated with former Sri Lanka cricket star, Romesh Kaluwitharana, who the organizers brought during the tournament.

“We are proud to be supporting an event where a world renowned former cricketer and champion of the Sri Lanka side that won the 1996 World Cricket Cup, Romesh Kaluwitharanawas in attendance. Such an effort will help to popularize the game of cricket in Malawi and we at Standard Bank we proud to be part of this historic event,” she said.

Unyolo re-affirmed Standard Bank’s commitment in taking the game of Cricket in Malawi to a new level.

“Long term commitments from all stakeholders are needed to achieve our goals in making our country a truly great cricket country and as the bank we are committed to support,” said Unyolo.

OG Lion Stars were crowned this year’s champions after beating Rab Super Kings.

The Sri Lanka Cricket Fiesta is in its second year. Other activities to complement the tournament include Sri Lankan music, food and also Malawi Police Services band entertained the participants .
