Malawi soccer legend Kayira faces corruption charges

Malawian soccer legend Peterkings ‘Beirut’ Kayira is facing corruption charges after the state sponsored graft-busting body, Anti corruption Bureau arrested him.

Kayira, who is also secretary-general of the Malawi Football Coaches Association, was arrested on February 29 by ACB, according to the bureau’s spokesperson Egritta Ndala.

Ndala said Kayira arrested alongside Pyoka Tembo and both were charged with corruption but they were released on Police bail.

Kayira: Faces corruption charges

The charges contend that he promised K100, 000 to an employee of Mike Appel and Gatto for confidential service information in motor vehicle repairs at the company.

He denies any wrong doing.

Trial of the soccer legend will wait until the judiciary strike ends.
