Kamwendo ‘missing in action’
Flames’ captain Joseph Kamwendo has reportedly not returned to his Mozambican club Desportivo Liga Maculmana after guiding the Flames to two loses at the just ended Cosafa Cup football tournament in Zambia.
According to sources, the Mozambican side has been inquiring from Malawi about the whereabouts of the former Mighty Wanderers’ midfielder, who flew home with the Flames following the team’s early exit at the regional showpiece.
Carlsberg Cup fixtures moved forward
Carlsberg Cup fixtures have been shifted forward following discussions between Football Association of Malawi (Fam) and Super League of Malawi (Sulom), which wants the TNM Super League’s first round over by
the end of August. With the changes, the Carlsberg Cup preliminary games, which were scheduled for August 3 and 4 will now be played starting from this weekend. Other games will be played during mid-week next week.
World Cup volleyball qualifiers in Malawi
World Cup Volleyball qualifiers for Africa Sub Zone A starts Tuesday in Malawi’s Capital City, Lilongwe. It is a Four-Nation tournament to involve Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and hosts Malawi.
Vam president Jappie Mhango said they were delighted to host the qualifiers and were also hoping to make an impact.
“We are hoping that we will hold a successful tournament. Everything that it is required to host the games is in place,” he said. Mhango said they were confident that Malawi teams would progress to the next round.
Coach Paul Malange is the in-charge of the men team with James Mangani taking control of the women’s squad.
The teams would compete in men and women categories and top three sides from each section would progress to the next round where they will meet their counterparts from Sub Zone B.
