Malawi teen boy commits suicide in mother’s house

A standard 5 pupil of Mfula Junior Primary School in Malawi’s eastern district of Balaka district has died after committing suicide by hanging himself to the roof of his mother’s house.

Balaka police spokesperson sub-inspector Joseph Sauka says the mother of the deceased Dyna Jonathan, told the police that  deceased was left home alone after she went to the river to wash clothes and when his elder brother came back home at around 1700 hours, he found the deceased hanging dead in their mother’s house.

Post-mortem conducted at Balaka District Hospital revealed that the deceased John William died due to suffocation after strangulations.

“Meanwhile Police is investigating the case as there was no suicide note left behind and there was nothing fishy that would make him commit suicide according to his mother Dyna Jonathan,” says Sauka.

The deceased was coming from Khazibeti village in the area of Senior Chief Nsamala in Balaka district.
