The championship was held at Country Club Limbe’s Malawi National Tennis Centre.

A total of 50 players drawn from across the nation competed in under 12, 14 and 16 divisions.

At the end of the championship youngsters from Mzuzu dominated the event after scooping five titles out of the available six.
Ramesh Banda, Austin Phiri, Junior Mkandawire, Linda Msiska and Diana Nyirenda  finished first in their respective divisions as Mzuzu outclassed Blantyre, Lilongwe and Zomba.

Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi général Secretary Stanley Kaunda says the country will soon start winning medals during international junior circuits.

“We have been struggling in recent international junior circuits failing to bring home medals. But through Sparc Systems sponsorship we will be able to identify and nurture players to win medals for the country. We will be rating players and those with a good rank will be considered for international tournament,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sparc Systems Limited managing director Wisely Phiri says the company is ready to continue bankrolling junior tennis.

He said LTAM’s plan to groom players to win medals for Malawi in 2019 inspired his company to bankroll the sport.

“The organisation was fantastic and we are ready to listen to another proposal,” he said.
