Malawi to be peaceful again, disarm the DPP cadets
Malawians know very well that Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda was a very powerful leader, who could not accept any suggestion detrimental to his leadership.

But, surprisingly, Kamuzu listened and accepted the call by Malawians to end one-party system of government and introduce multiparty democracy. Although Kamuzu had all the power not to accept the referendum results in 1993, he obviously realised that the end of his one-party dictatorship had come and there was no need to resist change. Then he organised a smooth transition to multiparty government.
Dictatorship aside, peaceful transition to multiparty democracy earned Dr Banda a rare credit which cannot be taken away from him. What also earned him credit was the spirit of hard work, honesty and discipline that he instilled in Malawians. Back-door deals, corruption and abuse of taxpayers’ money were totally unacceptable.
Security in the country was one of Kamuzu’s credits. Those were the days one could leave items outside the house overnight and could be found in the morning. This is not the case today.
Meanwhile, it must be mentioned that, during the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) rule, the party had its own youth wing—the Malawi Young Pioneers (MYP). While these were trained in handling guns, this was under strict control and the MYPs were not seen moving about with guns. The same was the case with the Police and Malawi Defence Force.
The situation in Malawi now is the direct opposite. There is total security breakdown. Under President Peter Mutharika, the youth wing of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), called cadets, even roam about displaying guns, pangas and any other lethal weapons. The media usually carries such displays.
Most Malawians have commented about this, but the President and his government have not spoken anything against such militias. It goes without saying that such habits of roaming the streets armed with lethal weapons, definitely shows that there is a government which does not care about the security of its people.
For the first time in the history of independent Malawi, people’s homes, offices and cars are being petrol bombed. One wonders where these bombs are coming from and if there was a caring government, by now it would have investigated and found control measures before every Malawian becomes a victim.
Investigations would have also gone as far as the whereabouts of those guns people allegedly snatched from the police during demonstrations. If the guns are still in the communities, people will use them for armed robbery.
In fact, Malawi is no longer as peaceful as it used to be in the past. Imagine, during the recent meeting which took place at Lilongwe Crossroads Hotel between the Attorney General and Human Rights Defenders (HRDC), people allegedly chased away some men who were aiming at bombing a car belonging to HRDC. Surprisingly, it was civilians who chased away the alleged bombers while the police were reportedly just watching. Without doubt, these suspected bombers were testing the security of this country. The fact that they attempted to bomb a car in broadday light, says a lot about security in the country.
The President should know better that for Malawi to be peaceful again, he must disarm the DPP cadets and any other groups which the law does not mandate to be armed. Therefore, there is urgent need for another ‘Operation Bwezani’. Only official security organisations such as MDF and Police must be armed.
Malawians must know that having armed groups is a catalyst of civil unrest. Malawi is not ready for that.

Lazembe,I wish I would give you the name of the guy who gave me the information you require but,he strongly refused as this could destroy his university career as he is completing very soon. Not only you who required the materials.Iam sorry for that but,Iwll still work for that.LONG LIVE OUR FATHERLAND MALAWI.
The matter of fact is that peter is sn old fool controlled by greedy guys. Peter is dead he follows those who are corrupt and blind. Dpp started well come second term of bingu things went from bad to worse today its matter of time before they test their own medicin..
A well written piece. HKB did not allow nonsense . Corruption and bank robberies were unheard of during his reign. These DPP desperados will go to any extreme to hang on to power. It is just a matter of time when the prince of thieves will be sent packing and then be held accountable for his deeds. Very soon our country will be free and peaceful again. Mutharika has done nothing but bring chaos, division and looting of public resources. We will hold him and his cadres accountable. The noose is tightening.
The Material has run away from relevance because it is centered on criticising DPP led Government and seem to favour the Old Regime which is essence was not listening as you put it. However we are not condoning, Corruption, Looting and Nepotism
This Zungwara has turned Malawi into a banana Republic.
It is the duty of military to disarm these rebels called DPP cadets as they disarmed MYP rebels. The parliamentarians can also disarm these rebels by having security act where authorised security organisations should be allowed to operate in this country.
I have to add Orton Chirwa, who formed the Malawi Congress Party and became its President.Orton Chirwa was killed in cold blood by Dr Ntaba by using rethal enjection on Chirwa’s body at Zomba criminal prison.
I have known Emily Kamanga in the early sixties but,we parted in 1964 during the famaous crisis when the most brilliant and patriotic first Ministers viz: Kanyama Chiume,Masauko Chipembere,Yatuta Chisiza,Dunduzu Chisiza,Willy Chokani,Augustine Bwanausi and Rose Chiwambo, rose against Banda for kneeling again to the colonialists who misruled us for centuries.I remember very vividly when we were exchanging views on the crisis and she was frontright condemning Banda as a stooge of the imperialists. What has made her today to support the MCP which is led by an opportunistic man of God turn politician because of finances.Chakwera, take a lesson from the real man of GOD,Bishop Desmond Tutu who remained with South African people including Nelson L.Mandela in prison for 37 years in Ruben Island breaking granite STONES.Emily, get out from the killer MCP and I think you know very well how the MCP treated Northerners as if we were foreigners in our own LAND.
@winston Msowoya, I find your reasoning very wanting….
i think u are not serious and it seems there is something u want in your favour from the governing party .Do you think Northerners have stopped being treated by ur corrupt and nepotism government , kambani zina osati mzitisokotsera pano
Let’s we call some great men we’re fighting for the worriers, but is our idiot a hello?
Malawians,of all the so called leaders,Mphonongo Banda was the dead worse followed by Mathanyula Muthalika. You can see now turning uneducated young men into a brutal coarse towards the former barbarous MYP who had been pushed out by our beloved armed soldiers.Yes,towards the end of Mugabe’s era,he became a deadly monster against his own people.Right now,Zimbabweans are eating UZUZU while Mugabe and his prostitute wife banked $600 billions in foreign institutions. In Malawi too,Banda had stashed $250 billions which is being now in the hands of CE0s abroad while the majority of our people are suffering heavily back home.As for Muthalika,he has also stashed billions of dollars waiting for him after his last term. This shows that Malawians can be ruled by any JIM and JACK. What you know is ATUMBUKA INU.that is all instead of building our nation.STAY AS YOU ARE,the Tumbukas are not to blame. These are to blame: Bingu Wa Muthalika,HastingsBanda,Joyce Banda,Bakili Muluzi and Mathanyula Muthalika where are all these fools coming from?
Winston can you give us more details and documents of the amount you mentioned in your comments please. its of important. you be needed as a witness please.
You are not realistic in your writing Emily. You can’t compare DPP cadets to MYP. You have no idea of what MYP was doing. MYP had more sophisticated weapons than Malawi army and police. Those guys were trained by Chinese and Israelis in case you don’t know. They were a military wing of MYP and you could not talk anything against Kamuzu Banda in the presence of MYP members. Kamuzus bodyguards were from MYP and not police as is the case today. If you don’t know how brutal myp was ask me I will tell you. Their brutality can’t be compared to DPP cadets. Your writing just shows your loyalty to MCP otherwise you lack facts and truth in your writing.
This discussion is very interesting, we had MYP being ruthless at the time when Malawi had dictatorship. Currently we have DPP cadets beating and petrol bombing people within democratic Malawi. Who is worse here??? cry my beloved country
Times you are discrediting your serves .You can now put anything in your news paper. Can you comment about those nyau s.Are they dpp ?Mutu wankhani wasowa lero.
This is a worst article written by a dull woman and an MCP idiot. Her husband old enough retired at Mzuzu University and was dull enough to fail the job of Deputy Vice Chancellor. He was beaten clean by one brilliant scholar Wanyavinkhumbo Msiska. Emily Mkamanga is as worse as Janet Karim in Zomba. This are old rags or mops wanting to sound intelligent and knowing but they know nothing. Phala lenileni. Just work in the bedroom if your husbands are still strong to saitsfy you or simply hire me then you can rest.
I am from the koma iwe Emily ndiwe wa bodza u are not ecen fit to be a reputable journaliat ngati mumadya tima change mzingo mwakachetechete..mbuzi ya munthu iwe mxiii mukunangiska mbirinya wanrhu waku mpoto
Emily you don’t know what you are talking about Banda. I don’t think you were there or born during Banda. You don’t know what we went through. If you have nothing to write please don’t write any nosense
Let me tell you that late Mugabe was much far better than Kamuzu.
Don’t put stork margarine or peunut butter on a brick or hard Rock.
Kamuzu was the worst silent killer. He had no choice due to his age and sickness
Well said!!!
The best time to disarm these cadets is now … While the 21st May election is being challenged in court, let us all unite and pray to our God for justice to prevail … O God! May you allow the person that people voted into power to rule this Nation, then our country will be called again “The Warm Heart of Africa”
I agree with this writer. In as much as I know operation bwezani brought misery to us and our families it served Malawi from total chaos. Unfortunately, Ntaba and Dausi did not want change and APM was not in the country. This is why we are still facing much worse problem than what we experienced during Kamuzu era.
Emily Mkamanga is truly an MCP sympathiser! just the 1st paragraph bears testimony for her bias towards Kamuzu. She alleges Banda listened and accepted calls for ending the one-party rule, my foot!
If Kamuzu had listened and accepted, then why did we have to go through the referendum? Emily, are you thick-headed enough not to realise Banda’s age played a role in transition to multiparty rule? The Kadzamira and Tembo group surrounding Kamuzu knew that people saw that they’d usurped power from him and were running government, not Banda himself.
Don’t lie, Emily, and ashamed of cooking fake praise of the man that tortured people willy-nilly in this country while you were comfortable in Zambia, albeit exile!
To da writer – hop ya still have fi job after posting this. Ya hear me bred. Lodamesi! We fixing to start telling western media outlets to watch for this one hand cowboy group.
To cadets – put da pangas down and enroll in education programs. (Can some1 read this to the cadets)
Iwe Emily Mkamanga reka utesi. Kamuzu had no choice on the referendum results. The west had squeezed him into listening. Malawians from the South and North overwhelmingly voted for multiparty. AChewa from the centre overwhelmingly voted to stay one party. The violence, stoning, burning, looting etc has happened when fake accent ex-reverend Nyolonyo Yona Lazarus Chakwera has ferried his chewa people from rural areas to participate in Mtambo’s demos. Usanamepo apa.
I guess Malawi is ready for guns and let dpp continue their guns with cadets. It will take one or two people getting fed up and get training kwa alqaeda ndipo azasesa onse a dpp so called top officials kuyambira tippex president wanuyo. Dont be cheated dpp, your security is very porous nde anthu akamangokuyang’anani ndima convoy anuwo dont think you are well protected. Better stop these petrol bombs otherwise zitikwana posachedwapa and you will reap always whatever you are sowing. Good thing about reaping is that you plant one seed and you reap in a abundance.
BECAREFUL DPP YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Dausi is cheating you and if you think it’s ok, carry on and you will learn bitter lessons.
Kwaheri! Allawakibaru!
Kkkkkkk koma kumeneko
who told you that malawi is not peaceful? ana anjoka inu
In other words, you want to abolish all youths that support DPP. This is disfranchising them so that in case there is a rerun DDP youths should be seen as militia and then they shouldnt vote. This is an attack on democracy.
