Malawi to host international ladies golf tourney

Malawi will host the Ladies East and Central African Regional Golf Challenge Trophy for 2015.

Ladies Golf Union of Malawi team manager Stella Ng’oma told Nyasa Times that the association was chosen after the end of this year’s tournament held in Lusaka Zambia.

Ng’oma said Malawi team comprising Maina Mkandawire, Regina Mwanza, Ruth Mvula, Elizabeth Tench,  Roza Mbilizi, Carol Banda, Shiela Chikhandwe and herself had gained experience.

The team finished on sixth position out of nine countries which participated.

She was optimistic that the country would hold a successful competition.

“LGUOM will start preparing to host the competition as soon as possible to ensure its success,” Ng’oma said.

She said competition was played in three divisions, championship division (handicaps 0-12), Silver Division (12-20) and Bronze Division (handicaps 21-36).

But Malawi’s representative in the Championship Division Roza Mbilizi pulled out because of an arm injury.

The winner in the Division was youthful golfer Melissa Nawa of Zambia who is based in the US, playing off 0 handicap.

Malawi’s Carol Banda, Shiela Chinkhandwe and Ng’oma played in Silver Division.

Ng’oma, playing off 17 handicap came fourth in her division with a gross score of 292 and Zambian, Tomita Pasinee, playing off 13 handicap won with a gross score of 285.

Mkandawire playing off 21 handicap, also came 4th in her division with a total gross score of 321 and the winner was also a Zambian Lisulo Monde, playing off 27 handicap with a gross score of 303.
