Malawi to play Angola in Casafa U20 semi-final

The Malawi under 20 national soccer team will meet Angola in the semifinal of the 2011 Metropolitan Cosafa tournament after Angola beat Namibia 4 – 3 to finish top of group D.

Malawi already qualified for the semi’s on Sunday and was waiting for group D to identify its winner for a date at Molepolole stadium on Thursday.

Angola finished top of the group ahead of Namibia, Madagascar and Zimbabwe.

Coach for the team John Kaputa described Angola as tough customers saying they have improved from the first game they played but is confident of victory come Thursday.

Kaputa: Angola are tough

“Angola has improved and they showed character against Namibia on Tuesday but we are equally prepared. Our goal is to be in the final regardless of the opposition,” he said.

Kaputa will be without top striker Isaac Maluwa who is nursing a knee injury and has been ruled out of Thursday’s encounter.

“He is making progress but won’t be part of the team, it’s a big blow but we are working on options,” Kaputa said.

In the other semifinal, hosts Botswana will meet defending champions Zambia. Zambia walloped South Africa 5 – 1 while Botswana beat Swaziland 3 – 0.
