Malawi top musician Lucius Banda fresh out of hospital: In ‘good spirits’
Malawi’s top musician Lucius Banda says he is in “good spirits” after being discharged from a hospital in South Africa.
Banda, 42, left Malawi over the weekend to perform at a wedding in Johannesburg but developed high-blood pressure on the plane. He was evacuated to a hospital on arrival and was treated in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The fearless artist said he was discharged on Monday and now is recuperating well in Johannesburg.
“I am very well and in good spirits,” said the self-styled ‘soldier of the Poor Man’.
Banda said he was delighted with his progress, saying he will soon return to Malawi and intends to perform in a number of shows once he regains to full strength.
Many Malawians were keen to inquire of Banda’s condition and doctors who treated him said he made “an excellent recovery.”
‘Thank you’
Banda expressed deep appreciation to everyone who prayed for his recovery.
“From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone who prayed and wished me quick recovery,” he said.
“it’s times like these when you realize you have an extended family, and feel so fortunate. “
‘Solider’ is famous for hard-hitting songs since the one-party regime of Hastings Kamuzu Banda, through Bakili Muluzi to Bingu wa Mutharika.
He remains the country’s most successful musicians having produced over 15 music albums since he launched his singing music.
Lucius briefly served as a Member of Parliament at his home area, Balaka North, but he lost the seat after he was convicted and sentenced to 21 months imprisonment with hard labour on charges of faking his academic qualifications.
