Malawi U-20 beat DRC, through to 3rd round of Africa Championship

Malawi Under-20 national team earned a berth into the final qualifying round of the 2015 Africa Youth Championship after beating DRC 2-0

The Junior Flames drew 1-1 in the first leg against the DRC at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre City a week ago.

But on Friday, the Ernest Mtawai troops came in full force to march on by getting an
outright 2-0 victory and winning the tie 3-1 on aggregate.

The Junior Flames scored through Isaac Kaliyati and Chawanangwa Kawonga on the 11th and 36th minutes to make it 3-1 on aggregate over two legs.

The next assignment will be in August when the Junior Flames will meet the winners between Zambia or Mozambique.

“I am so delighted that we have won. It was not easy but we are through and I thank my boys and God,” Mtawali told Nyasa Times from DRC.

Mtawali said his squad has potential to do wonders in the competition.

He said there is need for support to develop them into great stars.
