Malawi veep Chilima turns 44, to celebrate quietly
State Vice president Saulos Chilima has turned 44 on Sunday and his office says he will celebrate the day quietly at home.

The youthful vice president has been on spotlight this week going into the mud to assess flood devastation.
Pilirani Phiri, the veep’s spokesperson says Chilima would celebrate the day quietly with a few relatives and friends.
On Saturday he was seen hugging two children, twins, who were stuck to a maize branch in the middle of flooding waters in Lilongwe.
The picture has gone viral in social media.
President Peter Mutharika picked Chilima from the private sector to be his deputy.
He was chief executive officer of telecommunications company Airtel and has had footprint as a marketing supremo at Carlaberg Malawi and Unilever.

Who cares how old the VP turns if he is just as unavailable to this country as APM himself?
. . .You see . . .
“The value of life is not in its duration, but in its donation. You are not important because of how long you live, you are important because of how effective you live.” – Myles Munroe.
. . . Nanga, what value has Chilima (touted as a corporate kingpin) added, by being the VP of this country? Hasn’t he just managed to hide his face, either pretending that all is well; or that his boss is responsible hence doesn’t care? Is he not the one who is so careful preserving his image (whatever it is); that he doesn’t do/say anything, Even when APM is making wrong and costly mistakes?
Need people be reminded that under his watch . . .
. . . The country is getting poorer to the point of being declared the poorest? And that Malawi is just as corrupt, and may be even worse?
. . . When APM coaxed/threatened his MPs to shoot down the vote for ACB’s independence, what did Chilima do/say, if not nothing?
. . . When all is laid bare that this govt is utterly corrupt (cash-rich ministers, maizegate etc), what has Chilima done about it if not next to nothing?
. . . Are you sure that him alone, can be a good fish in a pond full of rotten fish?
. . . Yes, Chilima may find comfort in the fact that he is seen to be neutral even when things are going south. But who doesn’t know that, “If you remain neutral in a situation of injustice, then you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”? – Desmond Tutu
. . . Yes it is true that the VP’s role is often overshadowed by the role of the president, but if disaster befell this country (because APM made an error and Chilima remained quiet [as usual]), don’t you think that he (VP) shall share the blame?
……………………………………………………..
Good news is, “Its never too late to be what you might have been.” – George Elliot.
. . . Let the VP shake himself and wise up. He’s been too quiet to the detriment of this country.
. . . He needs to be active and make himself visible in matters of national importance (osati za tchalitchi zokha iai).
. . . Advise APM when he is making his usual executive errors.
. . . He (the VP) can even disagree with APM. After all, “Honest disagreement is a good sign of progress.” – Mahatma Gandhi. Otherwise, when disaster befalls this country (which is very likely), you (the VP) too shall be blamed not just APM.
. . . Know this that, “You are not only responsible for what you say/do, but also for what you do not say/do.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

Happy birthday Mr VP! Wishing you many more happy returns!
Happy birthday VP, we are proud of you. Thanks for your goodheartedness for celebrating it on a simple note like that, notwithstanding the current economic mess we are in as a country. HAPPY BIRTHDAY indeed.
