Malawi vendors back in city streets
Vendors are slowly but steadily returning to the streets in the commercial city of Blantyre owing to Blantyre City Assembly’s (BCA) inconsistency with their sweeping exercise.
Vendors who have gone back in the streets are those selling second hand clothes and shoes, agriculture produce, groceries and phones and related accessories.
Most of them were plying their trade in Blantyre Market.
The development could see some vendors, mainly those have remained in the designated market stop paying market fees to the city council.
BCA’s previous operations to force vendors out of the streets were characterised by chaos and running battles.
There was no immediate comment from the authorities.
Meanwhile, second hand clothes vendors who were plying trade at the Old Town in Lilongwe have gone back to the Tsoka Flea Market.
