Malawi Queens squad for C’wealth: Tigresses stars drafted back
Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has released a list of national netball team players to go to camp on Saturday for Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games recalling Complex Tigresses players.
NAM General Secretary Carol Bapu said the team would camp in Blantyre and players are expected to arrive by Sunday for the camp training at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC).
In the squad, NAM has recalled for national duty from Tigresses Sindi Simtowe, Laureen Ngwira, Beatrice Mpinganjira and Grace Mwafulirwa-Mhango.
The Tigresses players were dropped from last year’s squad that took part in the Fast5 World Netball Series in Auckland, New Zealand because their team protested its disqualification from the 2013 Presidential Championships.
The saga started after NAM took Ngwira for a pregnancy test which the association claimed tested positive. NAM subsequently disqualified Tigresses for featuring Ngwira who later tested negative to the test conducted at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
Head coach Mary Waya welcomed the inclusion of Tigresses players but said she would have loved if the players had camped earlier.
“It would have been good for us if we had camped early because we would have also considered to arrange training along the lakeshore to keep fitness for the players.
“If we would have enough time I would have proposed to take the players to train on the beaches to boost their physical fitness,” Waya said.
The following is the full list of players called into camp:Carol Mtukule Ngwira, Towera Vinkhumbo, Bridget Kumwenda (Diamonds), Takondwa Lwazi, Joyce Mvula, Cecelia Mtukule, Maggie Sikwese, (Blue Eagles Sisters), Jane Chimaliro, Tia Kamzati (Civonets), Mwawi Kumwenda (Tactix New Zealand).
