Malawian actress Flora Suya to star in Zambian movie

Malawi’s leading actress, Flora Suya, has landed a spot as a leading character in an upcoming Zambia movie titled Chenda.

A statement from Diamond Creative, the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) nominee plays the role of “Chenda”, a married woman who fails to bear children, which in turn makes her husband find a concubine.

“He stops caring for his wife and that leaves her vulnerable. His friend’s son comes home for a visit and falls for Chenda. He seduces her and she falls for him,” reads the statement dated 20 July, 2014.

“Shooting for the movie shall commence on Tuesday, 22 July, 2014,” the statement further reads.

According to Diamond Creative, apart from Zambian actors Owas Ray Mwape, Mingeli Palata, Dambisa Lunda and Adora Mwape, the cast also includes a Zimbabwean actress, Charity Ndlodlo.

Chenda was written by Ivory Van Der Boom. The film will be directed and produced by Owas Ray Mwape under his company, Owas Crystal Films Productions.

Suya is one of Malawi’s best actresses and has starred in award-winning local movies such as Shemu Joyah’s Seasons of a Life and The Last Fishing Boat

Her latest recognition was the nomination for the Best Actress at the 2013 AMAA, where she also got a nomination in 2010, alongside A-list actresses such as Ghanaian Jackie Appiah and Nigerian Rita Dominic.

Suya, who started acting early in primary school, eyes the Nigerian Film Industry, better known as Nollywood. She admires Julia Roberts.
