Malawian boy dies after circumcision
A postmortem carried out at Thyolo District Hospital has revealed that a boy who died after being circumcised during an initiation ceremony died of natural causes.
Media reports indicated that the boy (name withheld) aged 11 died on Sunday soon after undergoing circumcision at an initiation ceremony.
Southern Region Assistant Public Relations Officer, Beatrice Mikuwa sad the boy complained of body pains at the initiation camp.
“Soon after complaining of the pain, he collapsed and fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“The postmortem on his body revealed that the boy died due to natural causes and not due to the foreskin curtailment,” said Mikuwa.
Speculation was rife among some members of the community who linked the boy’s death to the knife he underwent.
However, Mikuwa said police did not suspect any foul play on the death of the teenager adding that nobody was cautioned on the death.
The deceased hailed from Magwira Village, Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo district.
