Teacher held for defiling and impregnating 16-year-old girl
Police in Ntchisi have arrested a teacher at Mitondo Primary School for defiling and impregnating a 16 year old girl.
Ntchisi Police spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha told Nyasa Times on Wednesday that the incident occurred between the months of August 2012 and May 2013 at Kasakula Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko in the district.
He identified the suspect as Victorious Mwale (32), from Kasakula Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko in the district and is alleged to have defiled and impregnated the 16-year-old standard 5 dropout at Mitondo Primary School in the district.
He added that police investigations revealed that the suspect is alleged to have proposed love to the victim, under the disguise that he will be teaching her private lessons in order to pass examinations.
Eventually the girl got pregnant in August 2012 and having noticed the development, her parents took the matter to the village head where the suspect is alleged to have admitted to marry the victim.
“The girl gave birth to a baby boy in May 2013 and no assistance had been provided to her and neither to officially marry the girl. This forced the parents to report the matter to Malomo Police Unit on July 30, 2013,” said the police spokesperson.
The suspect has since been charged with the offence of defilement and the case is pending court.
