Malawian in British Army arrested for being ‘illegal immigrant’

UK Border Agency has arrested and held in detention a Malawian female trainee soldier in British Army on suspicion of being an illegal immigrant.

According to Daily Mirror newspaper on UK,  the Malawian (name withheld), who was undergoing basic training, was seized by the UK Border Agency just weeks after joining the Royal Logistics Corps.

She was handed over by Army officers and arrested on suspicion of having false identity documents, the paper reported.

“We can confirm that a woman of 32 has been charged on suspicion of obtaining leave to remain in the UK by deception,” the report quoted the UK Border Agency .

The Malawian national had been taken to Aldershot police station from Deepcut barracks, Surrey and the Army says it “is a matter for the Border Agency.”

The paper quotes “sources” who “confirmed she will remain an Army employee while awaiting a court hearing.”
