Malawian man killed for failure to pay sex worker
A man from area 36 in Lilongwe, Elemiya Chizeze, was killed following a dispute he had with a sex worker he had hooked at a drinking joint in the area on the night of 2nd to 3rd October 2012.
According to information from Lilongwe police station Chizeze (24) went out for a drink on the said date and while there he agreed with Martha Brighton, (20) a sex worker from a pub at Tumbwe trading center in the area for short time protected sex which they settled for a fee of K500.
“In our interrogation with the girl, she said while inside the room the deceased changed his mind and told the girl he wanted unprotected sex. After negotiations the two agreed to have unprotected sex at a new charge of K4, 500 an amount which Chizeze produced,” said police spokesperson for Lilongwe Ramsey Mshani.
Things got sour between the two after the act when the deceased demanded his money back saying that he cannot pay such a huge sum of money just for sex. Following this disagreement, a fight ensued between the two as Chizeze tried to forcefully recover his money from Brighton.
Chizeze managed to get his money back from the girl and bolted from the room. Noting that she has been overpowered, Brighton started calling for help as she was chasing the deceased while shouting ‘thief, thief.’
Reacting to the shouts of ‘thief, thief’, the people around chased after Chizeze and managed to catch him. In a mob justice manner, the deceased was severely beaten and was left lying just outside the bar.
“It was one of the chiefs from the area who noted him lying by in a pool of blood and went to notify the owner of the bar. After he was taken to Kamuzu Central hospital he was pronounced dead,” said Mshani.
The police have since arrested the sex worker, Brighton who hails from Kadewere village Traditional Authority (TA) Mpama in Chiradzulu and is being held on remand at the Lilongwe police station where she is waiting to be taken to court.
“Postmortem results indicated he died of blood loss from a stab wound which was on his chest. So for the fact that the last person to be with the deceased in private was the girl, we are keeping her as we are not sure at which time this stab wound was inflicted on him,” said Mshani.
Brighton will answer a murder .
Chizeze hailed from Sungeni village TA Kabudula in Lilongwe.
