Mike Chilewe Junior: young Malawian entrepreneur

Forbes Africa is the famous and most anticipated annual list of 30 brightest and most successful entrepreneurs under the age of 30.

For a second year running, Chilewe has been named listed by the magazine under its ‘30 under 30’ list of great young entrepreneurs.

He is on the position 27.

Son to one of Malawi’s most prominent and successful businessmen, Mike Chilewe, Mike Jnr is founder of Chilewe brands.

He founded Chilewe Brands Global, a pan-African diversified company involved in financial services, manufacturing, agriculture commodity trading and commercial properties.

The company makes $2 million (about K1.5 billion at current exchange rate) a year and employs 20 people.

“I remember when I was in college, I asked my father for a computer and he said I should figure it out,” he recalls.

Chilewe started off selling his meal coupons and used the proceeds to start a small business selling blank CDs to fellow students to buy his first Pentium III computer.

“I also bought my first block of 40,000 shares in a telecommunications company from the same proceeds. I still hold on to these shares because they mean so much to me when I reflect on the hard work that I put in to make my small business venture profitable,” Chilewe told the Magazine.

Forbes Africa’s list, is one of the most anticipated list of 30 “of the brightest, hungriest and most successful entrepreneurs under the age of 30” in Africa.

In 2015 Chilewe was among four young Malawian entrepreneurs who attended the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) held in Nairobi, Kenya

The Summit was attended by the then United States President Barack Obama.

He didn’t start from the bottom…… and he lies when he claims his dad gave him nothing. Hypocrite.

He rides on his father’s fame and wealth and yet tries to coy out calling his fathers name. Stupid son. If his name was not Mike Jnr would he have the same the platform he is enjoying? This dude ain’t an entrepreneur
