Malawi’s President Mutharika rushed to hospital
Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika, 78 on Thursday was evacuated to Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe where doctors were attending to him after emergency medical difficulties.
Nyasa Times sources at the State House said Mutharika had collapsed while he was having an audience with a Mrs Penimulungu and was rushed to the hospital.
At the time of filing the story, the President was in the hospital’s Intesive Care Unit (ICU) and the place was cordoned off by security forces.
The medical scare will spark a volley of speculation over the President’s health.
His spokesman Hetherwick Ntaba could not immediately comment.
Medical experts say people of Mutharika’s age are expected to suffer a number of ailments.
