Malawi’s renowned trader Frazer Likonde dies, condolences pour in

Lilongwe enterprenuer Frazer Likonde has died.

Unconfirmed reports say he died Tuesday, coincidentally the same date and month another controversial businessman, Marshal ‘Dukes’ Madukulira died years back.

Posts on social forum Facebook are filled with condolence messages from friends, business associates, politicians, general sympathisers and media personnel.

Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs who is also the Attorney General Ralph Kasambara said Likonde was a “great man and entertainer”.

Journalists Kondwani Munthali and Dennis Chirwa posted their heartfelt condolences, branding the departed outgoing tycoon a good man that will greatly be missed.

Nyasa Times editorial director Thom Chiumia also extended condolences to the Likonde family.

“I am truly saddened by the loss and wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the Likonde family. My thoughts are with them in this difficult moment,” Chiumia tweeted.

Likonde was known for his love for loud music, loud jokes, and entertaining nature.

He ran a hospitality facility, transportation businesses inherited from his late father.

His last efforts at entertainment included a musical duet with local hip-hop star Lulu in ‘Kumalembe’.

Likonde has suffered a long illness.
