Man burnt to death for sex assault on girl

Malawi Police in Nsanje have confirmed the death of 32 year-old man who was burnt with petrol by the angry mob in the district after being caught defiling a little girl.

The deceased, idetified as Anord July, from Njovu 2 village, Traditional Authority Ngabu in Nsanje, was caught in a bush near Mbenje Trading Centre there.

According to Nsanje Police spokesperson, Agness Zalakoma, the deceased alleged to have gone into the nearby bush with the little unknown girl where he defiled her.

“It was a market day at Mbenje Trading Centre and and people saw him defiling. People ganged up and went after him and severely beat him before burning him with petrol.

“He was rushed to Nsanje District Hospital where he was admitted until today (Wednesday) when has been pronounced dead,” said Zalakoma.

In another development, Police in Mwanza have arrested 28 year-old Phokonyole Gwangwala and 34 year-old Isaac Thomas for being found with property suspected to have been stolen.

They were found with four bags of coal each weighing about 100kgs in their house.

The arrest follows a complaint law enforcers there received from Vale Lgistics that unknown people jumped into and stole coal from a train that ferries coal from Moartize in Mozambique.

Phokonyole and Isaac will answer the charge of being found in possession of property suspected to have been stolen.

Phokonyole comes from Masokosa village, Traditional Authority Kanduku in Mwanza while  Isaac hails from Thukuso village, Traditional Authority Malemia in Nsanje.
