Man guilty of torching ex-wife’s house, jailed 4 years
A man has been found guilty of setting ablaze his ex-wife’s house in central region district of Nkhotakota.
Rajabu Ndala, 29 was accused of arson contrary to section 337 of the penal code.
Constable Cidrick Cosmas prosecuting told the court that Ndala married Asiyatu Hassani in 2014 up
until March 14 this year when they divorced over family disputes.
The prosecutor said Ndala was living in the house built by the woman in 2012 before they got married.
Following the divorce Ndala left the wife’s house with his belongings only to come on March 17 in the afternoon setting ablaze the ex-wife’s grass thatched house.
At the time, the woman was sleeping with her one year-old daughter inside the house. It took neibhours to rescue her but her belongings worthy K231, 000 was destroyed in the process.
Thereafter, Ndala was arrested and charged with an Arson case
On Thursday March 23, 2015 Nkhotakota Magistrate Court convicted Ndala to 4 years imprisonment.
First Grade Magistrate Fred Juma Chilowetsa before passing the sentence said, the case is serious in nature hence Ndala needs custodial sentence.
He further expressed that the woman is homeless and rendered destitute.
“I therefore, sentence you to 4 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) to end this brutal behaviour and deter would be offenders.” Said Magistrate Chilowetsa.
Rajabu Ndala (29) hails from Mbaluku village in the area of traditional authority (T/A) Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota district.
