Man jailed 18 years sexual assualt on Primary School learner

A 36-year-old man, Tommy Maloya has been slapped with 18-year jail term by Blantyre Magistrates Court for defiling 11-year-old primary school pupil in Chirimba Township, Blantyre.

The court jailed Maloya yesterday (Wednesday 14th December, 2016) who earlier on pleaded not guilty to the offence of defilement contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code.

He committed the offence on the evening of 26th October this year when took advantage of the victim who was just loitering around Chirimba market.

Chirimba police unit Prosecutor, Sergeant Sandram Senzani told the court that on the said date the victim, a standard three pupil at one of primary schools in the Township, had lost her school bag and was afraid to go home in fear of her parents.

“Instead she decided to linger around the market until in the evening when the convict who works in one of hardware shops, defiled her,” explained Sergeant Senzani.

Maloya was arrested in the same month and was remanded at Chichiri Prison after pleading not guilty to the offence. Medical examination confirmed the victim was defiled.

And on Wednesday Senior Resident Magistrate Kalulu found him guilty and sentenced him to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL).

Maloya hails from Kwanjana village in the area of Traditional Authority Nchilamwera in Thyolo district.
