Man murdered for selling plates in Karonga

Police in Karonga district have arrested two men on allegations that they murdered a 57-year-old man after he forced one of the suspects to buy plates from him.

Karonga Police Station spokesperson Enock Livasoni confirmed the development saying the two suspects are Wakisa Simkoko, 30 years of Mwenitete village, Traditional Authority Kilipula and Kawo Mwangwewo, 41 years of Mwambuli village, Paramount Chief Kyungu in Karonga district.

Livasoni told Nyasa Times that the deceased Ronald Malongo from Mwambuli village with Simkoko went to drink local beer within the village but the duo quarreled forcing the deceased to return home.

“When the deceased reached his home he picked some plates and proceeded to his neighbor’s house, Kawo Mwangwewo and asked him to buy his plates. But Mwangwewo refused saying he would rather buy at the market,” the Police Publicist said.

According to police publicit, Mwangwewo refusal angered the deceased and a fight broke out but in course of the fight Simkoko came and joined.

“Malongo fell down and was unconscious. He was taken to Karonga District Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon his arrival,” he said.

Simkoko and Mwangwewo are in police custody and have been charged with murder.
