MBC crunch merger meeting shifted to Nov 18
As tensions remain high at State controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) over the merger of the radio and TV, employees look forward to a meeting with management which has been postponed from November 11 to 18.
The meeting was scheduled to take place from 12 noon Kwacha studio where MBC TV is housed.
Inside sources said the meeting is pushed to November 18 to allow officials from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) to attend.
“The meeting is called for by the management. It looks like it about nullifying the merger,” said a source from MBC.
Meanwhile, 300 employees have gone without pay since August this year and management says it is because they got their three months notice pay.
The court stopped the merger following some irregularities. Even the OPC said the merger was done without its blessing. MBC chief executive officer Bright Malopa processed the merger with his deputy Chimwemwe Banda with what observers say were “ vested interests”.
The two took advantage of the merger to eliminate employees who posed threat to them.
