MBC told to drop propaganda, open up -Kunkuyu

Newly appointed information minister Moses Kunkuyu says the Joyce Banda administration will ensure that the state-controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) will provide fair coverage.

Kunkuyu said he will take concrete steps to ensure that all stakeholders have equal or fair access to all state-controlled media.

He also stated that he will make sure that there is balanced reporting within the media circles.

Kunkuyu: MBC must serve the people

“We don’t need to have a biased kind of media, we just need to have a balanced media,” said Kunkuyu on MBC TV.

“It is illegal for public broadcaster to be bias, we need to hear only true stories [and not propaganda],” added Kunkuyu, while urging journalist to investigate thoroughly before publicizing any story.

The information minister said distortion of information can negatively affect the development of Malawi country.

He said government will ensure state-funded facilities were put at the disposal of all fairly.

Kunkuyu has replaced the garrulous Patricia Kaliati.

He also said his appointment by the new President Joyce Banda is not only his honour but to all youths of Malawi.

“This is not an only an honour to me but the youths of Malawi” said Kunkuyu.

Kunkuyu said this is a clear indication that President Banda has the welfare of the youths at heart.
