According to the group’s chair lady Ethel Chapukila, the women observed that most patients lack food at the hospital due to financial challenges and hence there was a need to share some with them.

“Recently we visited the hospital and realised that food was a problem especially from those who come from distant areas. As part of an immediate response to this, we mobilised ourselves and prepared food which we distributed in the TB, male, maternity and female wards,” she said.

Chapukila said Zokonda Amayi group is also expected to visit the District’s prison for the same initiative.

She appealed for other groups or Non-government Organisations (NGOs) to follow suit in assisting with the needed resources in various areas.

Ntchisi Nursing Officer Lucy Muwila described the group’s assistance to the district hospital as significant and timely.

Among the food which the women prepared was rice, beef, vegetables and fruits.
