ysgThis year, Mbowe Park in Lilongwe will play host to a festival of its own kind.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Tuesday, YSG Director Chimwemwe Ayanjanisa Jamali revealed that some of the activities will include car washing, motor stunts, drifting, skate boarding, acrobatics, music as well as food and drinks for sale.

“We want to interact with the youth and introduce ourselves to the corporate world. We have planned a series of activities to generate funds. Since this is just the beginning, the show will be free of charge,” explained Jamali.

He added: “Proceeds from these events will be used to organize workshops in semi-urban areas of Chinsapo, Kauma, Mtandire, Ngwenya, area 22 among others. It is planned that the workshops will help to identify youths that will be beneficiaries of the initiative.”

According to the YSG Director, consequences of living beyond poverty line with nothing to do, the youth result in early marriages, teenage pregnancies, alcohol and drug abuse and indulge in criminal activities.

“In trying to reduce through a minimal percentage of such challenges it was found imperative to establish the initiative, with main objectives being to train and develop appropriate and entrepreneurship skills, increase the youth access to loans that enables them to effectively and sustainably operate their business and train and develop the youth as productive and patriotic citizens towards national development,” He explained.

Quizzed on why they chose Mbowe Park to host the event, he responded: “If we want to work with the youth then we must think like them. Find them where they are found. Mbowe is the ideal place in Lilongwe.”

Young Skilled and Gifted (YSG) is an initiative spearheaded by energetic young people from different sectors. Members include youths from law, media and entertainment professions.

Among other activities, Jaxstar will be shooting a video for his new single which features Krazie-G and Tsar Leo.

The event will also be spiced with music performances by BFB, Jaxstar, Tsar Leo, Episodz, Charisma and many more.

Has the Lilongwe City Council given approval for that place to be holding such events where a lot of alcohol drinking takes place? It’s close proximity to a busy road plus a filling station makes it a disaster in waiting.
