MCP accuse Mutharika of snubbing Chakwera during Independence Celebrations

The main opposition Malawi Congress Party(MCP) on Wednesday accused Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) led government and President Peter Mutharika of not recognising its president Lazarus Chakwera during the Independence Celebrations which took place in Blantyre.

Chakwera was among the invited guests who included President of Zambia , Edgar Lungu, Speaker of Parliament Richard Msowoya, Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda Mayor for Blantyre City Assembly Noel Chalamanda, parliamentarians, business community, members of clergy, members of the ruling party and ordinary Malawians .

Mutharika failed to recognise Chakwera’s presence at the function when he could not even bother to mention him in his salutations.

Speaking at the news conference in Lilongwe, MCP spokeswoman Jessie Kabwira said Chakwera attended the function but government including the President did not recognise him.

“It is unfortunate that DPP government chose to ignore Chakwera during the function. It is unfortunate that Malawians voted for people who chose to lie in public than  to insinuate that Chakwera was not at the function. Let me warn this government that we are now becoming tired of these propaganda,” said Kabwira.

“Remember this is the government that did not win an election, they have stolen the Malawi Savings Bank,” said Kabwila.

Mutharika was declared victor of May, 2014 elections which was marred with legal battles.

MCP still claims Mutharika is ruling on stolen votes and has been discrediting his mandate to govern.

  1. Kabwira!!!kabwira!!! Do yu think it was mcp only that was represented? There were so many party representatives that came and they were not recognised and they are not crying either. Why yu? Chakwera is just a mere MP like all those parliamentarians who came to attend headed by the speaker Richard Msowoya. By recognising the speaker it means all mps are done including this chakwera. By recognising the Chief justice it means all judges are recognised. So tell me which arm of govt. is Lazaro heading. I think Msowoya is more important than chakwera according to this set up.(Executive, Judiciary, Legislature). Lazaro is just heading a bunch of disgruntled fools who lost an election.

Sell MCP to the North and accept mistakes were made in the past and extend your hand of reconciliation. We have had enough of the APM administration, we want it out in 2019.APM promised the Rumhi/Nyika/Chitipa road during campaign but does not even talk of it now. Is there any special reason Jessie thinks Chakwera should have been recognized? For sure yes!! He is the Leader of Opposition in parliament. If we have a Leader of Opposition in parliament,do we also have Leader of Government in parliament? If we do,he wasn’t recognized either.
