MCP appoints Kandiero its spokesman

Former diplomat Tony Kandiero has been appointed as the new spokesman of opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

Kandiero has been appointed to the position which was held by Nancy Tembo, currently the commissioner at the Malawi Electoral Commission.

“MCP’s news spokesman is Mr Tony Kandiero,” confirmed secretary general Beston Majoni.

Kandiero has served Malawi in various capacities including broadcaster, administrator and diplomat.

He spent 23 years in the state broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, which he led between 1980 and 1988, prior to being appointed Malawi High Commissioner to Zimbabwe.

In 1990, he was moved to London where he served as Malawi’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom as well as Ambassador to the United States of America in 2000.

He was also Ambassador on a non-residential basis to Argentina, Brazil Colombia and Mexico.

Kandiero has served on many Boards and including bieng a trustee of Press Trust and the Bingu Silvergrey Foundation for the Elderly.

Meanwhile, MCP has also appointed former broadcaster Jolly Kalero as spokesperson for parliamentary affairs.
