MCP ask Mutharika to concede defeat in Malawi fresh presidential elections

Malawi Congress Party (MCP)whose president Lazarus Chakwera is set to win the fresh presidential elections has urged  the incumbent President Peter Mutharika to concede defeat and allow smooth transition of power even though the final tally had not yet been released.

Mkaka: It is better DPP concede

MCP secretary general Elsenhower Mkaka  contend that Chakwera certain victory is a true reflection of the voting pattern of Malawians seeking change  in what he called  credible, free and fair elections.

Speaking in interview at the main tally centre at College of Medicine in Blantyre, Mkaka said: “We are exhilarated, excited with how the election has been conducted.”

He added:“President Mutharika must acknowledge his defeat and start talks on the transfer to a new government.”

Mkaka said the opposition has been impressed by the handling of complaints and the secure results handling system instituted by the new Malawi Electoral  Commission (MEC)  led by Justice  Dr Chifundo Kachale.

“I will dub this year’s elections the most credible, free and fair. Within the shortest period of time they have delivered what every Malawian believes to be a free and fair election.

“They didn’t have time and resources, but they still managed to deliver an election that will go down in history as one of he most credible,” he said.

Mkaka said the unofficial results show  Chakwera is leading by over a million vote.

“But we’re, like a family that is expectant, they will celebrate inside their house but they will wait for the baby to be delivered and then they can celebrate outside,” he said.

Mkaka said it is the Commission that is mandated to declare the official results.

The unofficial results show that the Chakwera has amassed  2,630,472 or 59.7 percent of the votes, Mutharika is second with 1,743,173 while Kuwani has finished third with 32,248 or less than one percent of the votes.

  1. God is not a Man that we can fool. A true Leader listens to his people. When you are a President it does not mean you are a King. Leaders take the concerns of their people to heart. And they are Servants of the people who elected them; not Masters of the People. Above all, should be God fearing. The Bible says those who lack wisdom, ask it from God. This is a warning to the in-coming President. Please Read PROVERBS 29 VERSE 4. This has a stinging warning to the greedy and corrupt Leaders. God Bless Malawi. We are unique in the World. When duty calls, we cry to our God who is Faithfull and Just and He acts decisively. To Him, and only Him be the Glory.

  2. I know there’s is a lot of political prostitution in Malawi where people change party like they are changing underwear. The message to the new leadership is this, please do not entertain any of these people from DPP to jump into Tonse government. They do not represent the change Malawians have fought for.

  3. Is it that the only election that MCP calls free and fair is the one in which they are winners?
The judicial commissioners review case that was started was in anticipation of possible loss. When MCP won, suddenly the commissions have no case and case withdrawn. Next don’t use courts to settle political battles.

    1. And who are you to tell MCP not to use court again ? The party have a right to withdraw the case .

    2. Cadet walira mokweza. The court didn’t vote. It’s the ordinary Malawians who delivered the knockout blow. Kuzolowela kuba basi

  4. Oops! n’nayiwala, mwadzukako bwanji a energetic youthful Atupele Muluzi? Nanga bambo ali bwanji? Ife kuno kumva kutsekemela ndithu.

  5. Sindinathetse Dala cabinet, apwanga tiyeni Wina aliyense Ayambe kuchotsa ziwiya mumanyumba abomawa achina mtambo akudzalowa nawo ayendele ma benziwo basi,

  6. Mutharika lacks Malawian Umunthu, so it is very unlikely he will concede defeat this early if at all!! He treats political rivals as personal enemies! It makes me wonder if this clueless, brainless and shameless octagonarian is Malawian at all!!!

  7. One two, one two, hello mr mgeme, one two one two, hello agogo? Mukumva bwanji mthupimo? Aaaa, ife kumva kukoma ndithu.

  8. Mutharika is a coward with zero leadership skills, it takes a real man to concede defeat. I am sure Mutharika is still listening to ridiculous and emotional ideas from first lady and cadets about how they can still hold on to state house. He might not even show up to the swearing in ceremony.

    1. You know what BigMan, you are probably right. All that shifting around of the Army Commanders had evil intent written all over it.

  9. There is no way the arrogant old senile man can accept defeat now, even after the official announcement he will still continue barking at the judiciary like a mad old dog.

In our 56 year old history, it was only the father and founder of our nation, Dr H Kamuzu Banda, a true gentleman who had the humility to accept defeat even before the official results were announced…….i still respect him to this day.

  10. The country has spoken , I salute all Malawians who can change things . I have seen that all educated Malawians in the Cities have showed that they judge a president by performance not tribe .. Blantyre , Lilongwe , Mzuzu , zomba they have decided for a change bravo Educated Malawians . together we can do it .
If MCP want to stay in power , they should stop Quarter System , develop the country in all regions .

  11. Hahahahaha, Peter naye mwina ndiokozeka kukhetsa magazi and like chakwera might form bvumbwe barracks! Mcp should just keep quiet because yourselves don’t concede defeat.

  12. No. We can not force anybody to do anything. The writer should know there is freedom of expression, freedom of opinion in Malawi. Ndi MCP’ s pioneers and youth league who were forcing people to do what they did not want. Don’t write again your nonsense.

  13. Malawians deserved this day! We have done away with boma la mbuli (led by mbuli-in-chiefs) komanso boma la mbava (led by mbava-in-chiefs). But we must go back to the drawing board–Reboot 1.0! Nothing good comes from umbuli and/or dyera hence the wasted 26 years of boma la mbulis and mbavas!!!!!

  14. Good thought but considering the President did not dissolve the cabinet and proceeded with the budget indicates he will be dragged from State House Kicking and Screaming

    1. Koma wina lecturer wa statistics Namangale “NA” kkkkk, mlomwe amakana kuti survey inali yosakhoza

  15. Where in the world do losing presidential candidates concede defeat based on social media tally results? In a normal setting you only concede defeat when official tallies show it is mathematically impossible to overhaul the results.
And by the way give us the 2014 Joyce Banda’s conceding defeat speech. It was a brilliant one so to save time we just want to edit it here and there.

    1. Late Dr Kamuzu Banda conceded defeat in 1994 before the announcement of final results by MEC.He conceded defeat by 2 pm a day after the elections (Voting day) and used interim results to make a decision to avoid power vacuum and uncertainty among the citizens. One very important thing he did was that a HEAVY SECURITY CONTINGENT was sent to Mr Bakili Muluzi’s person and home before going on MBC radio to announce “Bakili Muluzi is a clear winner”.
May APM government provide security to Mr Chakwera now, please! You don’t wait for final results. What if overzealous DPP supporters (CADETS) have something up their sleeves, don’t give CADETS a chance, please!

      1. Palibe chanzeru mwakambapo apa. Were the interim results you are talking about based on social media/unofficial results or MEC results? Reread my comment I said when it is “..mathematically impossible to overhaul…” (ie MEC official results).
MEC can only advise MDF to provide security to Chakwera when its official results tally show that he can’t be overtaken. Until then the commander in chief remains APM according to malamulo adziko osati aMCP.

        1. Iwe ndiye ukudziwona ngati wanzeru? These are not social media results. These are tabulations from results announced by every D.C.
I’m sure DPP had monitors in all districts. Show us your alternative facts, hahaha!
Keep being in denial. Kachale has given you 36 to 48 hours injury time to pack your bags

  16. No one will subvert the will of the people this time around. Malawians have suffered a lot, they need change and Thank God the change has come through these elections

  17. I have been informed that Peter is trying to negotiate a way to leave Malawi immediately. It is now up to President Chakwera to decide the future of APM. He applied for asylum in Zimbabwe.

    1. Why would he need to negotiate? Is this a coup? If he looses the election he reverts to be in an ordinary member of Malawian society, a former president. No need to hound him out.

    2. It is embiciles like you that make our democracy sour. Is it a crime to lose an election? Or do you take this peace for granted?

  18. It’s good that change has come.my advice to the winners let’s celebrate in a manner not to ridicule the losers this was a competition and the best team has won.My advice to the in coming presidents Laz ndi SKC u shud put God first inorder for you to unify Malawians. We have one Malawi and develop it to the std that pipo shud wonder.Make Malawi a better place for all irrespective of their tribe, region or religion.God bless Malawi God bless Laz ndi SKC .

  19. Adadi awapweteketsa kwambiri ana awo, amadzimva u pulofesa kwambiri nde muone pano mmene atakuthawireni atidye nawo a anakuzungulirani aja, chipani kutheratu pompo

  20. I just like the way Justice Kachale changed the tallying system by not using Electronic transmission. This has saved the Nation. Don’t be cheated Malawians, those guys from Zambia, they were in Malawi to rig the Election in favour of the DPP Government.
The DPP Government should accept the defeat as the MCP did in 1994. This will not mark the end of life, but to build One Nation called Malawi.
I would say much that DPP and the leadership didn’t know what Malawi wanted.
The DPP tried to shape the Malawi but they did not know what shape is it going to be, especially under this out going leadership.
Pasakhaleso zoti eeee wakuti wamenyedwa amulanda 11 million! We all know kuti ukatopa mgalaundi, umaloza boot yako yomwe kuti yayamba kuthina. This to us is not stranger, am sure you know! So any trick and or kukula mtima from the leadership we had,it will just show how you were taking Malawi, simunda wa munthu uno.
God bless Malawi.this is our home and the only home we have in the World.

    1. No tipex this time which Justice Jane Ansah said was okay in the 2019 election. Then, tipexed ballot papers looked a child learning to write kept making errors and thought he/she was writing in the sand so he/she could keep erasing mistakes and trying again.

When God says “wait”! He has good plans for you Jeremiah 29:11 Chakwera waited.

I hope there will be no revenge politics. Tonse Alliance will be no better than DPP if revenge politics is practiced. DPP belongs to one tribe and needs to be taught that a president is president to all tribes in Malawi, not just not one.
Long Live Chakwera! Long Live Chilima!
      All glory goes to God.

    2. I agree with The Sniper, but disagree that “DPP tried to shape Malawi…”. They never tried. All they were concerned about was making themselves and their like minded brethren rich. Just look at how many buildings each one has within just a short time.

The question is, will the Tonse Alliance find the COVID 19 billions of $, or not? 😁
