MCP new MP Jepther Mwale sworn in: Fired Jumbe moved to an ‘island’ independents side

The newly elected member of parliament for Mchinji West Jepther Mwale of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) was on Monday sworn in at when Parliament started meeting.

Mwale won the recent the by-elections following the death of the former MP, Kanjira Banda.

The newly elected MP was escorted to the Parliament by a group of jubilant  MCP supporters and party officials who were later treated to a reception at the party headquarters.

MCP president,  Lazarus Chakwera was also available to welcome Mwale.

In an interview, MCP administrative secretary, Portipher Chidaya said the winning of Mwale in Mchinji is clear indication that the party is strong.

“MCP is strong because DPP invested heavily in Mchinji  including President Peter Mutharika going flat out to campaign but failed to win,”  Chidaya said.

Meanwhile, in parliament Salima Central member if parliament, Felix Jumbe, who was fired in Agust by MCP as he is now associating with ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), was moved from MCP benches and relocated to independents side.

Jumbe  described his new seat as an ‘island’.

He, however, accused Speaker Richard Msowoya of  his decision to accept MCP request to move him, saying the Speaker was an interested party since he remained the MCP cice –president.

Jumbe was fire in MCP for bringing the party into disrepute.

Speaker also informed the House that Zomba Ntonya ,Patrick Makina has been reloated to independents side after Peoples Party (PP) expelled him “for not working in the interest of the party.”

Our voting system is based on Regional lines. MCP will find it difficult to win the hearts of many from the South. I thought the time they could have won in the South was when Chakwamba was the leader of MCP. We also thought that they could have won in 2009 when they joined forces with UDF when UDF fielded no candidate to run. Do you know why MCP lost fame in the South? Ndiye kuli bwino tigawanepo dzikoli, tatopa ndi anthu akuba, opanda chisoni, zoona nkhaza zinalipo koma basically mankhwala mzipatala amapezeka, Chimanga was not a problem, DPP kuba basi.
